Florida Turnpike Extension Plan Will Likely Get A Thumbs Down From One City

WUFT reports, Florida DOT representatives attended last night’s Inverness City Council meeting to provide an update on the proposed Northern Turnpike Extension project and answer councilmembers’ questions. Also in attendance were about 70 opponents, some of whom used the meeting’s public comment period to air concerns about potential construction impacts on the environment. In the end, the council unanimously agreed to prepare and hold a formal vote on a non-binding resolution supporting the project’s no-build alternative. Although the measure is likely to pass, the council’s president said it would have a provision leaving open the possibility of reconsideration as FDOT studies of the project evolve.
