Illinois Tollway Begins Removing Another Over-The-Road Service Pavilion

Pioneer Press (via Chicago Tribune) reports that contractors have started to dismantle the Hinsdale Oasis’ over-the-road pavilion on the Illinois Tollway’s Central Tri-State Tollway (I-294). The project will continue in stages over the summer, a process described in a tollway authority news release. The iconic facility’s removal is part of the tollway’s Central Tri-State Tollway (I-294) Project, a $4 billion reconstruction and widening of the toll road used by more than 220,000 vehicles daily.

Outer Banks Town Will Support NCDOT In Mid-Currituck Bridge Appeals Case

The Outer Banks Voice reports, the Southern Shores (North Carolina) Town Council announced it will file an amicus brief in a federal appeals court in support of allowing construction of the Mid-Currituck toll bridge to proceed. Grassroots and conservation groups represented are asking the court to overturn a trial court decision that denied their challenge to the project’s NEPA assessment as conducted by North Carolina DOT. Southern Shores’ decision to file the brief “is the latest and clearest example of recent efforts by Dare County municipalities to create momentum toward building the proposed five-mile toll bridge. . . . Those efforts have featured the recent passage of resolutions in favor of the bridge by a number of Dare County towns, the county commissioners and the Dare County Tourism Board.”
