Federal Agencies Get Guidance On IIJA Oversight And Accountability

Reuters reports, on Friday, the White House released an Office of Management and Budget (OMB) memorandum on federal agency oversight of Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA) implementation. The directive requires departments and agencies to designate a senior official to be accountable for IIJA funding; to work with their inspectors general and OMB on the design and implementation of spending programs; and to be transparent in establishing funding criteria and performance indicators. “An administration official told Reuters the federal government was working to hire about 8,000 people to implement the infrastructure law, with the majority to be hired in 2022. The [OMB] guidance says the jobs include ‘human resources, contracting officers, grants managers, and data scientists.’”

The White House issued a fact sheet on its policies for ensuring effectiveness, accountability and transparency in IIJA implementation.
