Metro Pacific Tollways Aims For 2026 Conversion To Barrier-Free Tolling

The Philippine Star reports, the Metro Pacific Tollways Corporation aims to establish barrier-free tolling of all their Philippine facilities by 2026. The process of removing toll plazas and erecting equipment gantries will begin next year, according to CEO Rogelio Singson. “MPTC estimates to spend between P8 billion and P10 billion [USD 138.7 million to 173.4 million] for the delivery of the project.” The conversion will improve traffic flow, something customers will welcome, but the company also expects to benefit from a 150 percent increase in lane throughput. Singson noted that meeting the project implementation schedule depends on Philippine toll operators achieving toll system interoperability. An effort is underway, but the companies and government officials have missed several completion deadlines.
