Chula Vista Mayor Wants To Eliminate SANDAG Tolling Of South Bay Expressway

NBC News San Diego reports, the mayor of Chula Vista, California, is pushing her colleagues on the SANDAG board to find a way to eliminate tolls on the South Bay Expressway (the SR 125 Toll Road), which traverses the city. Mayor Mary Casillas Salas believes SANDAG can find a way to expedite the retirement of $172 million of expressway debt. Tomorrow, she will ask the city council to back a resolution calling for the reversion of the expressway to toll-free, state-owned status by 2027. The SANDAG board is expected to discuss the issue at its January 28 meeting.
