AASHTO Again Urges Congress To Provide State DOTs With Emergency Funds

AASHTO Journal reports, the association renewed its call for $37 billion in emergency funding for state departments of transportation in an October 5 letter to congressional leaders. “This crucial federal backstop will prevent cancellations and delays of vital transportation projects as well as potential job losses both in the state DOT workforce and the private sector,” AASHTO chief Executive Jim Tymon stated in the letter.

HCTRA Memorializes Deputy Sheriff Killed While On Duty

KHOU reports, the The Harris County Toll Road Authority has dedicated a section of Beltway 8 near highway 249 to the memory of a Harris County sheriff’s deputy shot and killed in the line of duty last year. The segment will now be known as the HCSO Deputy Sandeep Singh Dhaliwal Memorial Tollway.

MDTA Police Apprehend Suspect In Tunnel Road Rage Shooting

WBAL reports, “A 23-year-old Baltimore man has been arrested and is facing attempted murder charges in connection with an alleged road rage shooting in September near the Fort McHenry Tunnel.” The man reportedly followed another driver through the toll tunnel, then pulled alongside her vehicle, rolled down his window and fired a shot from a handgun. Neither the victim nor her car were struck.
