DRJTBC Begins Six-Week-Long I-78 Repair Project

The Delaware River Joint Toll Bridge Commission (DRJTBC) announced it used its “Job Order Contract” procurement program to obtain services for a six-week I-78 work project that gets underway today. According to a new release, the program “allows for procurement of diverse contractors for smaller-scale repair projects that would not traditionally attract competitive bids from multiple contractors.” The project entails repairing the road surface and lane markings along a busy 4.2-mile segment of I-78 that DRJTBC maintains on the New Jersey side of the river. The corridor presents maintenance challenges because of the underlying geologic formations. Overnight lane and shoulder closures will be required throughout the project.

Irish Government Responds To Climate Threats With Higher Tolls And Congestion Fees

Irish Independent reports, “Higher taxes, more tolls, parking restrictions and congestion charges all lie ahead for motorists in the push to halve transport carbon emissions under the [Irish] Government’s upcoming Climate Action Plan. Officials say journeys by petrol and diesel cars must fall 25pc by 2030 for a chance at hitting climate targets, and there is ‘no pain-free way’ of bringing about the change. The warning comes as traffic count figures from Transport Infrastructure Ireland show the number of vehicles on the road since the return to offices two weeks ago is back to pre-Covid levels.”
