Skanska Negligence Trial In Pensacola May Wrap Up Today

WEAR and Pensacola News Journal have been following this week’s federal court trial over a class action lawsuit in which Skanska’s alleged negligence in securing construction barges ahead of 2020’s Hurricane Sally is at issue. Unmoored barges caused extensive damage to the Pensacola Bay Bridge and required its closure for months, triggering litigation by area businesses and individuals who claim they were economically damaged as a result. Much of the testimony has focused on how and why Skanska managers handled storm preparations in light of forecasts about the intensity of the storm. (The case is docketed as In Re Skanska USA Civil Southeast Inc. and Skanska USA Inc., 3:20-CV-05980-LC-HTC, N.D. Fl. (Pensacola).)
