Kansas Governor Greenlights US 69 Express Toll Lanes Project

Kansas Governor Laura Kelly (D) formally announced yesterday that $300 million has been committed to the project to add tolled express lanes to a congested segment of US 69 in Overland Park. “This project will enhance accessibility, address long-term safety concerns, and relieve congestion to recruit new businesses and families to Johnson County,” Kelly said. The project is scheduled to be let for construction in fiscal year 2022 and opened to traffic in 2025.

Kansas Reflector reports, Kelly said more than three-quarters of a billion dollars in highway and road construction projects will be getting underway soon all across the state. “The road improvements are part of the 10-year Eisenhower Legacy Transportation Program, or IKE, passed and initiated by the governor and Kansas Legislature in April 2020. Most of the projects will begin in 2023.”
