“Land Line” Magazine reports, the Ohio Trucking Association supports the Ohio Turnpike and Infrastructure Commission’s electronic toll system modernization plan, particularly its provision for construction of highway-speed, open-road tolling (ORT) facilities. The article notes that SB 162, a toll payment enforcement measure the commission wants adopted before it implements ORT, has already received unanimous state senate approval and is pending in the lower house of the legislature.

Toll Facility Expected To Win Truckers' Favor As It Improves Metro Chicago Freight Transport

Transport Topics interviews Illinois Trucking Association Executive Director Matt Hart about the Houbolt Road Extension Project, a public-private initiative that is creating a highway extension and toll bridge to facilitate intermodal freight distribution in the I-80 corridor outside Chicago. Hart projects that his members will initially try to avoid the facility and its tolls, but, “[a]t the end of the day, every truck that’s on the highway is there because consumers need something or want something. And the consumers and the marketplace will require that it be delivered at the most cost-effective means possible. I think, in the long term, you will see more trucking companies use that bridge and they will build the price off that toll into the cost of goods.” (The joint venturers undertaking the project with Illinois DOT approval are CenterPoint Properties and United Bridge Partners.)
