Maine Daily Praises the Turnpike's Electronic Tolling System

The Portland Press Herald editorial board gives an enthusiastic endorsement to electronic toll collection based on the Maine Turnpike Authority’s experience with the technology. The editors judge the MTA system a “huge success” and note that regardless of a relatively small rate of payment default, it produces a “steady and predictable” flow of revenue without creating traffic problems. They go so far as to conclude that the turnpike offers a good example of how the state should create “a sustainable path forward for highway funding.”
