The Maine Turnpike's Traffic Management and Communications Center Is a Busy Place

News Center Maine (WCSH and WLBZ) profiles dispatchers who staff the Maine Turnpike Authority’s Traffic Management and Communications Center in Portland around the clock, 365 days a year. Center manager Kristen Kloth tells a reporter the job “requires a lot of multi-tasking” because she and her co-workers answer calls about crashes and maintenance issues; help dispatch state police, turnpike authority safety patrols and tow trucks; keep watch on several video streams and traffic monitoring sites; and post real time updates to social media, web and radio outlets that keep drivers aware of traffic conditions.
