Kansas Turnpike Motorists Will Get Another Chance To Stop For Vaccination

WIBW reports, once again, the Kansas Turnpike is partnering with the state’s health department and Blue Cross Blue Shield Kansas to make free COVID-19 vaccination available to motorists (out-of-state residents included) who stop at the mobile clinics they will be set up on Friday at two turnpike service areas. About 50 people were vaccinated at service area clinics held in mid-August. This week, as many a three times that number are expected to receive either the Pfizer or Moderna vaccine.

Northeastern US Prepares For Heavy Rainfall And Widespread Flooding

The Weather Channel reports, “The remnants of [Tropical Storm] Ida will team up with a stalled front to produce widespread heavy rainfall and a significant threat of flooding rain, along with isolated tornadoes, from parts of the Appalachians into the mid-Atlantic and Northeast through early [tomorrow].” Flood watches have been posted by the National Weather Service from the southern Appalachians to portions of New England, an area served by several major tollway networks.

Pennsylvania Governor Tom Wolf (D) yesterday signed a disaster emergency proclamation in anticipation of the storm and consequent threat of widespread flooding. A subsequent state news release notes, “Motorists should watch for ponding on roadways and flooding in poor drainage areas while traveling.”
