NY Thruway Completes Its Years-Long AET Conversion Process

The New York State Thruway Authority announced the substantial completion of its Cashless Tolling Design-Build Project weeks ahead of schedule. “The milestone marks the final phase in the conversion to cashless tolling on the entire 570-mile Thruway system. The final phase of the project featured removal of 230 individual toll booths and reconstruction and realignment of 52 former toll plaza locations on the Thruway’s former ticketed system.” The authority’s conversion of the I-87 and I-90 corridors to all-electronic, open-road tolling began in 2018. Among other accomplishments, contractors installed 2,000 gantry-mounted cameras and sensors, and 81 Variable Message Signs.

WTEN covers the announcement and notes that the thruway authority has posted an online gallery with images of 50 interchanges before and after their conversion to AET.

Florida's Turnpike Schedules "Kickoff Meetings" On Proposed Turnpike Extension

Florida’s Turnpike Enterprise announced that it has scheduled two “public kickoff meetings” in early December to introduce the Northern Turnpike Extension project. According to an FTE project website, the agency “is conducting an Alternative Corridor Evaluation (ACE) to evaluate the extension of Florida’s Turnpike [SR 91] ‘from its northerly terminus in Wildwood to a logical and appropriate terminus as determined by [FDOT]’ per Senate Bill (SB) 100 (2021), Florida Statutes.” FTE adds that the project is in an early planning phase and is “being screened in the Efficient Transportation Decision Making (ETDM) process where input from the Environmental Technical Advisory Team (ETAT) regarding alternative corridors will be collected. ETAT input helps to determine the feasibility of a proposed project and focus the analysis of the ACE and Project Development and Environment (PD&E).” More information and a link to a registration form for the December 7 (virtual) and December 9 (in-person) meetings can be found on the project website.

Louisiana Parish Acts Favorably On Private Developer's Toll Bridge Proposal

KTBS reports, on Wednesday, an Alabama-based infrastructure development firm, Tim James, Inc., inched a step closer to getting approval of its plan to build a road and toll bridge connecting the Louisiana parishes of Caddo and Bossier over the Red River. Bossier Parish lawmakers unanimously approved the company’s proposal to enter into a cooperative endeavor agreement for the $60-$80 million project. Tim James still needs Caddo Parish and US Army Corps of Engineers authorizations before starting design work, but Bossier Parish’s attorney said the developer is “moving in all directions in a positive way.”
