How And Why FDOT Is Transforming Tampa's Frankland Bridge

Tampa Bay Times digs deep into Florida DOT’s $865.3-million Howard Frankland Bridge makeover project. Its aim is to reduce congestion and increase the safety of a span that “has proven to be the region’s most frustrating chokepoint as well as its most indispensable link.” The article looks at current traffic conditions, design and construction methods, and the vision of a Tampa businessman — you guessed it, Howard Frankland — who championed the building of the bridge out of a conviction that infrastructure has the potential to ignite economic growth.

Congressional Dems Get Prepared To Go It Alone On Infrastructure

The Hill reports, Democrats’ frustration with the pace of infrastructure package negotiations is clearly growing. Yesterday, two White House officials advised House Democrats “to get ready to go it alone on infrastructure if bipartisan talks founder, setting the stage for party leaders to [use the budget reconciliation process] to move President Biden‘s top domestic priority without Republican support. The officials said “they would give Senate negotiators seven to 10 days to reach a bipartisan agreement, according to Democrats in the meeting.”

The Hill adds that Senate Majority Leader Charles Schumer (D-NY) will meet today with colleagues to initiate a process that could result in Democrats invoking budget reconciliation to get an infrastructure bill done.
