MTA Police Mount Tech-Enabled Crackdown On Toll Evaders

New York Post reports, it took Metropolitan Transportation Authority police just 30 minutes to identify and stop three drivers using fake temporary license plates to evade Robert F. Kennedy bridge tolls one day last week. The offenders were arrested at the start of a new “targeted” enforcement initiative that uses technology-enabled “intelligence and review of fraudulent use patterns of travel” to apprehend and deter scofflaws. According to the article, “crooked drivers routinely attempt to evade tolls using falsified temporary plates, which can be fabricated using a home or office printer. Fake New Jersey and Texas plates are especially common in New York, sources said.”
