Windsor-Detroit Tunnel Will Discount Tolls On Electric Vehicles

CKLW-AM reports, the Windsor-Detroit Tunnel announced it will offer a 25-cent toll discount to fully electric vehicle owners beginning in September. According to tunnel (and American Roads) CEO Neal Belitsky, local developments in battery and electric vehicle technology inspired the tunnel operator to “be part of the excitement in moving the region ahead in helping to protect our environment.” The discount program’s details are not yet complete, but will be announced shortly, said Belitsky.

USDOT Proposes National Standards And Requirements For EV Charging

USDOT announced that the Federal Highway Administration last week issued a Notice of Proposed Rulemaking setting out broad minimum standards and requirements for projects funded under the National Electric Vehicle Infrastructure (NEVI) Formula Program. “These minimum standards will help ensure our national EV charging network is user-friendly, reliable, and accessible to all Americans, and interoperable between different charging companies, with similar payment systems, pricing information, charging speeds, and more. The proposed rule would establish the groundwork for states to build federally-funded charging station projects across a national EV charging network, an important step towards making electric vehicle charging accessible to all Americans.” The announcement includes links to help states implement charging plans and access NEVI formula funding.

A White House fact sheet and an AASHTO Journal article have more information  about the standards and requirements proposal.
