Will India's Toll Collectors Find New Jobs with Their Employers?

The Times of India reports, India’s toll collectors are beginning to worry that the nation’s gradual transition to “fully automated” highway tolling means their prospects for future employment are in jeopardy. “Till now,” the article notes, “there has been no official statement about what awaits those who work at toll plazas once they are automated, whatever the time it takes. And this lack of clarity has been disconcerting for many. But [several] concessionaires . . . said they would not let their employees go even if their roles turned redundant. There may be some restructuring and people could be accommodated in other roles.”
