The Effort That's Keeping VDOT's I-66 Express Project On Track For December Opening

InsideNoVa.com reports, “With less than six months until the expected opening date for the Interstate 66 Outside the Beltway toll lanes, work crews are cranking through over $30 million worth of work per month as they race to the megaproject’s finish line. The 22.5-mile, $3.7 billion public-private Transform 66 project remains on schedule for a December opening of the new toll lanes, but plenty of work remains, project officials from the Virginia Department of Transportation and I-66 Mobility Partners told InsideNoVa.”

Senate Passes Resolution To Nullify Biden Administration NEPA Implementation Rules

Route Fifty reports, “In what Republicans said was a bipartisan rebuke of the Biden administration’s strengthening of environmental permitting regulations for a wide range of infrastructure projects, the Senate approved a resolution [yesterday] that would undo those rules. The effort to repeal the administration’s major changes in the enforcement of [NEPA] still faces an uphill path,” since it must pass the House, where Democrats have a clear majority, and President Biden has said he would issues a veto. Nevertheless, Route Fifty notes, there is evidence of political momentum in Congress for streamlining permitting “even among Democrats.” (A link was inserted by TRN.)

The rule implementing changes in NEPA implementation regulations took effect in May.
