Trump Administration Still Silent On Details Of Surface Transportation Reauthorization

Eno Center for Transportation reports, “As time runs out for Congress to reauthorize federal surface transportation programs prior to their scheduled expiration on September 30 of this year, time is also running out for the Trump Administration to submit the text of its reauthorization plan. The Administration’s fiscal 2021 budget request, submitted almost six months ago, contained the dollar amounts of a ten-year surface transportation reauthorization proposal. But as to all the legislative and policy details, the budget only said, over and over, ‘In the coming months the Administration will release the details of its reauthorization proposal.’ So far, no proposal.”

Isaías Threatens To Disrupt East Coast Travel Today

WUSA reports, the Maryland Transportation Authority (MDTA) announced that adverse travel conditions caused by Tropical Storm Isaías could force the agency to impose temporary traffic restrictions or stoppages on some bridges and toll facilities today. In a news release, MDTA warned motorists to be prepared for wind warnings and traffic restrictions on bridges.

In a Metropolitan Transportation Authority news release, Bridges and Tunnels chief Daniel DeCrescenzo stated, “High winds pose a particularly serious concern on bridges, which is why we’re instituting a ban on tandem trailers and empty tractor trailers on our bridges from noon to midnight [today, August 4]. Additional restrictions may [be] put into place if conditions warrant so we are advising all motorists to look out for announcements as the storm passes through.”

Elizabeth River Tunnels announced that the DriveERT Customer Care Center in Portsmouth, Virginia, will be closed today “due to potential severe weather conditions.”
