Republican Senators Criticize Cuomo's Replacement Of Entire NY Bridge Authority Board

Times Herald-Record reports, “Republican senators in the Hudson Valley say Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s replacing the entire board of commissioners on the New York State Bridge Authority is a back-door way to getting what he truly wanted: merging that agency with the Thruway Authority. At least one Democrat said she will be keeping an eye on the new appointees to make sure they are independent voices.”

Italy Inaugurates Morandi Bridge Replacement Today

Reuters reports, today, just two years after Genoa experienced a disastrous tollway bridge collapse, a replacement structure will be inaugurated in the presence of Italian Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte. The new Genova-San Giorgio viaduct, designed by eminent architect Renzo Piano, is scheduled to open to traffic later this week.

Deutsche Welle reports, pride and satisfaction over the successful replacement project is overshadowed by the 2018 Morandi Bridge disaster that “shone light on the country’s poor maintenance of its infrastructure, as well as sparking an investigation into toll-road operator Autostrade that ran the bridge.”
