Transport Topics: "Highway Bill Stuck in Limbo Amid Negotiations"

Transport Topics‘ headline is a brief but adequate description of the status quo just five weeks and a handful of days prior to the expiration of the nation’s current highway funding and policy law. According to the article, “Senate panels with jurisdiction over freight, transit and taxes have not contributed to highway legislation the Environment and Public Works committee approved last year.” House legislation passed in July (which did not address systemic highway funding problems) is going nowhere because of sharply criticism from Senate Republicans and the White House. Transportation and business leaders meanwhile continue to press Congress for action.

Delaware DOT Will Launch A New DBE Assistance Program In October

The Delaware Department of Transportation announced it has received a $75,000 award from the state labor department to fund a 12-month program to help certified Disadvantaged Business Enterprises strengthen their core capacity for highway construction work. The TRAIN (Today’s Reinvestment Around Industry Needs) Program will be administered collaboratively by DelDOT and a group composed of public economic development agencies and private construction organizations.

CDC: Face Masks With Valves Or Vents Don't Prevent COVID-19's Spread

The Washington Post reports, “The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention updated its website to warn against using masks with exhalation valves or vents to slow the spread of the coronavirus. Masks with vents or valves ‘allow air to be exhaled through a hole in the material, which can result in expelled respiratory droplets that can reach others,’ the CDC website now states. ‘This type of mask does not prevent the person wearing the mask from transmitting COVID-19 to others.’”
