Oklahoma Makes Remarkable Progress In Improving Highway Bridges
The Oklahoma Department of Transportation announced, “Oklahoma highway bridge conditions are making the grade by moving from among the worst in the nation to the head of the class, achieving Top 10 status for the first time by ranking ninth, according to the latest data from the Federal Highway Administration. The state was as low as 49th place in 2004 in national bridge condition rankings due to the number of structurally deficient bridges on the state highway system.” ODOT’s news release describes how a funding and modernization program launched in 2005 and accelerated in 2011 enabled the state to reduce substantially its backlog of critical maintenance projects.

WTOP sets up Maryland’s round of six public hearings on its P3 plan to add managed toll lanes to I-495 and I-270. “The goal,” reports WTOP, “is to hear what residents think of the I-495/I-270 Managed Lanes Study Draft Environmental Impact Statement.” The first of the virtual public hearings will take place on Tuesday, August 18, in separate morning, afternoon and evening sessions.
