TCA Will Extend Review Of New Policy On Project Studies

The Orange County Register reports, TCA’s Foothill/Eastern Transportation Corridor Agency has decided to engage in more discussion and public outreach about a draft policy on the study of new projects, including any future 241 Toll Road extension. It aroused some concern this week when the draft came up for board consideration. TCA last year abandoned a 241 extension proposal that generated pushback from some residents and communities. A board member said the policy now under consideration is a response to a state bill and an attempt to provide transparency about future board proceedings, not an indication that TCA wants to reverse or limit last year’s decision about 241 Toll.

COVID-19 Will Affect Holiday Travel On Greek And Japanese Tollways

Ekathimerini reports, beginning today, police will inspect vehicles traveling on national tollways “to identify those who travel outside their regions in violation of pandemic restrictions. The decision to make more inspections was taken in anticipation that a number of people will defy restrictions to spend the Easter holiday” — Orthodox Easter falls on May 2 this year — “in the countryside, mostly in their ancestral villages.” The article adds, police will “use helicopters and drones in their inspections and will also check traffic on smaller roads that skirt [tollways].”

The Mainichi reports, “To prevent travel to sightseeing spots and other locations amid a heightened coronavirus spread in the Tokyo metropolitan area and the Kansai region . . . , the government will ask expressway operators to suspend holiday toll discounts with the Electronic Toll Collection System (ETC) over the ‘Golden Week’ holiday between late April and early May.”
