Arizona DOT Achieves Success Using Thermal Cameras To Detect Wrong-Way Drivers

The Arizona Department Of Transportation announced that its unique use of thermal cameras to detect wrong-way drivers on freeway off-ramps in Phoenix “will continue to grow, especially after the cameras have worked well as part of a pilot project along Interstate 17.” A new report on the pilot concludes that the cameras are “a reliable way to detect wrong-way vehicles, alert law enforcement and warn other drivers to reduce the risk of crashes involving often-impaired wrong-way drivers,” according to an ADOT news release.
