Toronto Star reports, “Premier Kathleen Wynne will give the green light to Mayor John Tory’s proposal to toll the Don Valley Parkway and the Gardiner Expressway to bankroll transportation infrastructure. ‘If Mayor Tory and his council determine that they would like to embark on a tolling of certain roads — local roads in the city of Toronto — then we will work with them,’ Wynne told reporters [on December 7] at an announcement related to the Eglinton Crosstown LRT project.”
CBC News Toronto reports, “Patrick Brown [Ontario’s Progressive Conservative Leader] said he’s concerned Toronto Mayor John Tory’s proposal for tolls on the Don Valley Parkway and Gardiner Expressway will ‘start a war of tolls’ across the [Greater Toronto Area].” The report adds, “Brown, speaking on CBC Radio’s Metro Morning, said he’s concerned other municipalities may follow Toronto’s lead.”
