Virginia DOT Outlines Plan To Expand ERC Toll Relief Program

WAVY reports, Virginia DOT is “moving quickly” to implement an expansion of the Toll Relief Program it initiated in 2017 together with Elizbeth River Crossings (ERC), which holds the franchise to maintain and operate the Hampton Roads Downtown and Midtown Tunnels. VDOT plans to make eligibility and benefit enhancements effective when the next enrollment cycle begins in November. The program provides E-ZPass account credits to income-eligible motorists for some of the tolls they pay at the tunnels. Background information on the proposed adjustments was the subject of a recent presentation to a Hampton Roads MPO task force by VDOT tolling director David Caudill, PE.
