Korea Expressway Signs MOU on Operation and Maintenance of Bangladesh Toll Bridge

The Daily Star reports, “Bangladesh Bridge Authority [on September 12] signed a memorandum of understanding with Korea Expressway Corporation (KEC), for operation and maintenance of the Padma Multipurpose Bridge,” a road and rail facility that is still under construction. The article notes, “Under the MoU, a technical team of KEC will visit Padma Bridge site and will give a technical proposal on maintenance method, required manpower and relevant issues including toll collection. . . . Once the technical proposal is approved, KEC will provide a financial proposal following [a] bridge operations and maintenance manual,” and the parties will execute a formal contract. A toll rate schedule is still under discussion, according to the report. (Links inserted.)

Austin Will Convert Vacated Tollbooth into Temporary Fire Station

CBS News Austin reports, the Austin City Council approved funding to convert an “old, outdated” SH 130 tollbooth into a temporary fire station. The city has plans to build a permanent facility, but the retrofit will reduce the fire department’s response time to some neighborhoods in the meantime.
