THEA Opens Selmon Expressway Slip Ramps To Relieve Morning Commute Congestion

WFTS reports, the Tampa Hillsborough Expressway Authority (THEA) has opened two new slip ramps connecting the westbound Selmon Expressway and the Reversible Express Lanes (REL) near I-75 and the I-4 Connector. The toll-funded project aims to relieve morning rush hour congestion into Tampa. Among their other benefits, project leaders believe the new lanes will allow REL drivers “an uninterrupted drive all the way to Gandy Bridge without unnecessary exits and reentries.” The article notes that THEA has $1.2 billion worth of capital improvements planned over the coming decade.

Boxing Legend Pushes Button On Restored DRJTBC Bridge's New Lighting System

TAPinto.net (Phillipsburg, NJ) reports, last night, “[t]he sky over the Delaware River came alive as the Delaware River Joint Toll Bridge Commission (DRJTBC) officially unveiled its programmable color-changing LED architectural lighting system on the iconic Northampton Street Toll-Supported Bridge,” known locally as the “Easton-Phillipsburg free bridge.” Former world heavyweight champion boxer Larry Holmes — an Easton, Pennsylvania, favorite son — led a light display countdown at the recently renovated circa 1896 span. DRJTBC decided to install the system to emphasize the bridge’s “unique engineering lineage and its strategic importance along the riverfronts of [the two border communities].” (TRN edited the link in quoted text.)

NY Thruway Bridge Work Will Reduce Northbound Lanes Outside NYC

Repairing the concrete deck deterioration on a Rockland County bridge will require the New York State Thruway Authority to close two northbound lanes of I-87 just north of New York City this weekend, Patch (Nanuet, NY) reports. One lane will close around 9:00 tonight on a stretch between exit 14A (Garden State Parkway) and exit 14B (Airmont-Montebello ), with a second lane closure to follow Saturday morning, “as traffic will be shifted into temporary lanes on the left side of the highway, including the shoulder.” Authorities are hopeful all three lanes will be open by Monday’s morning and evening commutes, but it’s possible one lane will remain closed. The same process will be repeated on the southbound side of the bridge the following weekend.
