New Bill Would Require PA Turnpike To Advance Southern Beltway Projects

Pennsylvania Business Report covers the introduction of state legislation (HB 2556) that would require the Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission to construct, operate, and maintain two segments of the proposed Southern Beltway Projects and commit funding for that purpose. “This legislation is essential to the development of our local economy,” said the bill’s prime sponsor, State Representative Mike Puskaric (R-39). “Enacting this legislation would also allow the completion of two vital trucking routes into the Mon Valley, as well as connect us to the city of Pittsburgh and the Pittsburgh International Airport.”

TxDOT Suspends Some Austin Tolls Because Of Protest Demonstrations

KXAN reports, on Saturday, TxDOT announced the suspension of toll collection in sections of metro Austin due to protests against the death of George Floyd while he was in police custody. The suspension, which continues until further notice, applies to SH 130 between I-35 north of Georgetown to SH 45 Southeast and SH 45 North between SH 130 and I-35. The article notes that a downtown section of I-35 was closed twice on Saturday by “protest-related traffic.”

Northwest Parkway LLC Donates $100,000 To COVID-19 Relief

The Northwest Parkway concession company announced today it is making a $100,000 donation to three Broomfield and Lafayette (Colorado) organizations providing services and relief to those affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. Pedro Costa, Northwest Parkway CEO said in a news release, “As an organization financially affected by, but fortunate enough to be weathering, these challenging times, we take to heart the importance of supporting organizations that are directly fighting this fight and helping those who have been the most impacted.”
