Pennsylvania Turnpike Funds County DA Unit Dedicated to Nabbing Toll Dodgers

LevittownNow.com reports, the Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission, in furtherance of its crackdown on toll scofflaws, granted the Bucks County District Attorney’s Office more than $327,000 to investigate and prosecute motorists “who rack up high bills between this year and the end of 2022. The unit will cover the Turnpike in Bucks and Montgomery counties with buy-in from the Montgomery County District Attorney.”

PA Turnpike and PennDOT Participate in Landslide Prediction Research

KDKA reports, a “landslide scourge that has gripped Western Pennsylvania for the past few years” has bought about a search for technology to predict slides and warn property owners. Julie Vandenbossche, Ph.D., P.E., the leader of the University of Pittsburgh’s IRISE Consortium, tells KDKA her organization is bringing together infrastructure industry stakeholders — including representatives of the Pennsylvania Turnpike, PennDOT and leading universities — to work on engineering technology for managing, if not preventing, landslide incidents.

Expanding Free Tow Service Helps Keep Metro Houston Highways Clear

Houston Chronicle reports, Harris County, Texas, officials are in the process of expanding the range of a free towing service that is underwritten with congestion relief and roadway safety funds. The county employs contractors to stand by so they can expeditiously remove stranded vehicles from area freeways and take them to a safe location up to a mile away. The article notes that the service is similar to one provided by the Harris County Toll Road Authority on its roadway network.
