Metro Houston And Galveston Prepare For Major Storm Impacts

KTRK reports that the Houston and Galveston metro areas are preparing for the arrival of two major storms, Hurricane Marco and Tropical Storm Laura, that have the potential to cause extensive flooding and other severe impacts. Evacuation orders are a possibility.

KTRK adds that Laura’s projected path shifted toward southeast Texas yesterday, causing the state’s governor to declare a disaster emergency in 23 counties.

Colorado's C-470 Toll Schedule Includes 4-Plus Axle Surcharges

CDLLife.com reports that the toll schedule adopted by Colorado DOT for its new C-470 express lanes in Denver adds a $25 surcharge per zone onto tolls charged to vehicles with four or more axles. The facility has three westbound zones and two eastbound zones, which means a trip could “get costly for truckers,” according to CDLLife.

An Intense Debate Over RITBA's Future Continues

The Public’s Radio (a Rhode Island NPR affiliate) covers the debate between advocates (led by Governor Gina Raimondo) and opponents (primarily residents and lawmakers on the east side of Narragansett Bay) of a proposal to merge independent transportation agencies like the Rhode Island Turnpike and Bridge Authority (RITBA) into RIDOT. The argument for consolidation is primarily economic: it would save money while increasing state oversight, according to the governor. The opponents believe the present management structure affords them more control over vital infrastructure and claim RITBA is better equipped than RIDOT to maintain bridges.
