Principal, Regional Planning

The Principal, Regional Planning will be responsible for providing key land use and economic inputs to the broader forecasting team, and developing analytical processes and internal engagement models to meet whole of business needs. The role includes the provision of land use and economic inputs to the traffic models used by others, statistical analysis, management of related research and development activities, reporting, and providing advice and forecast data to internal clients.

Key accountabilities

  • Manage the delivery, implementation, and ongoing improvement of land use models primarily for North America but also support other key markets of TCL
  • Prepare land use and demographic forecasts for use in traffic and revenue models
  • Regularly update land use information for North America
  • Produce forecasts of macro and local economic trends affecting related infrastructure needs and asset values
  • Prepare alternative forecasts to test alternative futures, and assess risks and opportunities
  • Provide input and support to the development of corporate forecasts and budget processes for each of the assets
  • Contribute to the improvement of existing traffic budget models

Qualifications

  • Undergraduate qualifications and/or or post graduate qualifications in urban or regional planning, economics, statistical or other related fields
  • Proven high level skills in the development, application and interpretation of land use and demographic models; with direct experience in the development and delivery of land use information for transport related projects a distinct advantage
  • Proven high level skills in the development and use of statistical models; with applications related to roads and traffic of particular interest
  • Well-developed project management skills

Preferred

  • Demonstrated awareness of external factors that may influence/impact Transurban’s core business
  • Experience in relating with Government Agencies and developers on a range of issues
  • Must have ability to think critically and possess strong oral and written communication skills
  • A recognized commitment to high quality outputs, timely delivery, and customer satisfaction
  • Demonstrated ability to influence stakeholders and gain “partner” confidence
  • An ability to mentor staff and grow expertise and capability to meet business requirements
  • Be an autonomous self-starter with resilience
