Foster’s Daily Democrat reports on the end of another toll industry tradition. It seems Miles has made his final Labor Day stand at the Maine Turnpike’s York toll plaza. For 21 years, he (and Clawdette the Lobster) entertained and handed gifts to motorists waiting to pass through the plaza on their journeys home from Vacationland. This past Monday, Miles was portrayed by MTA employee Alex Martin, who said, “I have done it a few times. I act goofy and the kids love it. Parents say thank you. Traffic is hard.”
