Andrew Fremier Rises To Top Posts At MTC, ABAG And BATA

The Metropolitan Transportation Commission (MTC) announced yesterday that Andrew Fremier, PE, has become the new chief executive of the commission, the Association of Bay Area Governments (ABAG) and the Bay Area Toll Authority (BATA). He succeeds Therese McMillan, who retired February 1 after a nearly four-decade career in federal and regional public transportation agencies, including four years in the top MTC posts. Mr. Fremier is a prominent figure in the tolling industry and current president of the International Bridge, Tunnel and Turnpike Association (IBTTA). He left Caltrans in 2005 to become MTC’s executive deputy director. Since then, he has had management responsibility for, among other things, San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge construction oversight, regional toll bridge operations, express lanes development and conversion of a former US Postal Service building into downtown San Francisco’s Bay Area Metro Center.
