New PA Turnpike Maintenance Facility Will Operate On Solar Power

Pittsburgh Tribune-Review reports, the Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission is installing a microgrid consisting of more than 3,200 solar panels in conjunction with the construction of a Westmoreland County maintenance facility. The microgrid — a first for PTC — has a power rating of 1.305 megawatts, includes a 1.35 megawatt natural gas generator and is configured to sell power not needed by the maintenance shops to a local utility. The $7.5 million construction project is part of PTC’s capital plan.
