Illinois Tollway Project Said To Have Influenced Microsoft Building Site Selection

Daily Herald reports, the mayor of Hoffman Estates, a Chicago suburb, believes the Illinois Tollway’s I-90/Barrington Road interchange project contributed to Microsoft’s decision to propose a nearby development project. The company wants to build a pair of 207,000-square-foot internet data centers on 53 acres. If approved as planned, the project would create approximately 280 construction jobs and 40 permanent jobs, and raise the property’s estimated post-construction value to more than $200 million. (The tollway authority partnered with Hoffman Estates, Pace and IDOT on the interchange project, completed in 2018. The facility now provides full access to I-90, the Jane Addams Tollway, and a direct pedestrian crossing to a transit bus station.)
