CBC News Ottawa reports that the city council directed the mayor to approach provincial officials for financial assistance in obtaining an environmental assessment of a proposal to construct a vehicle tunnel through the core of the city’s downtown area. The council specifically requested “that the scope of any environmental assessment for the tunnel explore the possibility of making the tunnel a toll road.”
