IBTTA Announces 2020 Toll Excellence Awards
“American Journal of Transportation” reports, IBTTA yesterday announced the 2020 recipients of its Toll Excellence Awards, whom it recognized for projects “focusing on environmental sustainability, advancement of emerging technologies, easing mobility and alleviating congestion.” This year’s seven honorees in six categories were the North Texas Tollway Authority (Administration and Finance); Washington State DOT (Customer Service and Marketing Outreach); the Illinois Tollway (Social Responsibility); Florida’s Turnpike (Technology); the E-470 Public Highway Authority (Toll Operations, Engineering and Maintenance); Egis (Private Sector Innovation); and HNTB (Private Sector Innovation).

The Economist looks at the pandemic-induced financial dilemma facing New York’s Metropolitan Transportation Authority. How economically significant is MTA? ABC News (Australia) reports, residents and local officials in a west Melbourne community are protesting a plan approved by Victoria’s environmental protection agency that permits contaminated soil excavated during the West Gate Tunnel project to be dumped at two suburban Melbourne sites under controlled conditions. They want state government to overturn the permitting decision, but a government spokesperson initially defended it.
