Maine Turnpike Bridge Expansion Joint Break Requires Emergency Repair

WMTW reports, the Maine Turnpike Authority (MTA) has hired CPM Constructors to repair a hazardous expansion joint break in the Stroudwater River Bridge near Portland. The break was discovered last week and temporarily covered with a steel plate. Work will start today on a permanent repair that is expected to take three weeks. The span, located between Exits 47 and 46, will be reduced to two lanes during the project, and a work zone speed limit of 50 MPH will be in effect. MTA advises motorists to expect backups.

Indiana Toll Road Concessionaire Resumes Maintenance Projects Around Gary

The Indiana Toll Road Concession Company (ITRCC) announced Friday that work on the Northwest Indiana Bridge Rehabilitation Project will resume. Around Exit 10 in Gary, the tasks remaining to be completed are upgraded lighting infrastructure installation and “toll plaza aesthetic and safety enhancement projects.” That work, which will occur periodically over the next several months, will require  some lane and shoulder closures, as well as short-term Exit 10 ramp closures. Project work between the 108th Street ramp and mile marker 0 in Hammond will also  resume and bring single lane closures.

ITRCC is also undertaking pavement improvements between Hammond and Gary. From today through mid-April, the Exit 3 westbound on-ramp in Hammond will be closed owing to that work.
