Massachusetts Is Reevaluating A Congestion Pricing Response To Chronic Traffic Problems

A potential response, congestion pricing, is now getting more attention at both municipal and state levels. The article looks at how and why the concept — Streetsblog casts it as “setting up entry fees . . . to reduce congestion by making drivers pay a fair price for the traffic they cause” — is undergoing official evaluation.

MTC And Partner Agencies Offer Bay Area High Schoolers Paid Summer Internships

The Metropolitan Transportation Commission (MTC) is inviting Bay Area high school students to apply to the Norman Mineta Bay Area Summer Academy, a five-week paid internship program co-sponsored by MTC and other regional government entities. The program is an opportunity for students who will be tenth, eleventh or twelfth graders to learn what the agencies do and how they deal with issues such as environmental justice, housing and transportation equity, community health, and social justice. Participation, mostly online, involves learning sessions, quizzes and a final presentation, and with completion, students receive a certificate they can include in a college or job application. Enrollment is limited. The online application submission deadline is April 28. See MTC’s application announcement for more information about the program and eligibility requirements.
