Transurban Concludes Successful Campaign to Thwart Texting Fraud

Transurban announced that a campaign it launched in May to encourage Australians to report fraudulent texts aimed at getting money or financial account information from Linkt toll system customers got results. By offering some prizes, the company incentivized motorists to submit 130,000 reports that led to blocking of more than 4,600 unique phone numbers and 240 fraudulent URLs over a period of six weeks. Transurban added that annual statistics — it has received over 335,000 scam reports since July 2022, bringing the number of unique phone numbers blocked to over 20,000, and the number of fraudulent URLs blocked to 1,900 — illustrates the prevalence of attempts to defraud Linkt customers.

US Needs More -- And More Reliable -- EV Charging Stations

“Government Technology” reports, “The lackluster reliability of public charging locations is prompting new partnerships among automakers, even as the technology continues to evolve to enhance the user experience.” Seth Cutler, COO of EV Connect, a charging software technology company, complimented Tesla expansion efforts, but added, “Tesla can’t do it on its own. It’s going to require lots of different players and partners and collaborations in this industry to build out a vast network of charging stations that will be beyond just Tesla’s Supercharging network, but will include the next connector.” EV Connect is working on implementing the National Electric Vehicle Infrastructure (NEVI) standard of “plug-and-charge” technology, which verifies a transaction simply by connecting the charger to the car, rather than requiring the driver to verify the transaction through an app. Other companies, including Volta Charging and LNG Electric, have their sights on offering Level 2 charging stations to places like hotels, office and apartment buildings, and retail spaces. The article emphasizes that simply increasing the number of charging stations nationwide will not be sufficient without great strides in the technology’s reliability and user experience.

RITBA Announces Special Extension Of Walk-In Center Hours To Convenience Customers

Newport This Week notes that the Rhode Island Turnpike and Bridge Authority (RITBA) E-ZPass customer service walk-in center will be open “for special evening hours” on August 24 and August 31. “We had a good response to our extended hours in March and wanted to add hours during the last weeks of summer for those customers who may have some flexibility now,” said Lori Caron Silveira, RITBA chief executive. “We find that evening hours,” 3:30 PM to 6:30 PM, “allow our staff to focus on the customers who come in, and having some dedicated hours for in-person transactions improves the experience for all.” RITBA’s walk-in center is normally open Mondays, Wednesdays and Friday between 9:00 AM and 1:00 PM.
