Dallas City Council Kills the Trinity Toll Road Project

WFAA reports, “The Dallas City Council voted overwhelmingly on Wednesday to kill the long debated Trinity Toll Road project as a part of a larger park plan for the river. The council voted 13-2 to reject ‘Alternative 3C’, as it was termed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, which ends a more than decade long debate that divided the city on the future of the project.”

Australia Pitches Trump on "Asset Recycling" Plan to Pay for Infrastructure

Bloomberg Businessweek reports that as President Trump looks for ways to pay for his promised $1 trillion infrastructure plan, “a group of Australian politicians and executives has been lobbying for the administration to adopt a controversial policy of selling or leasing airports, toll roads, and other public facilities to raise money for infrastructure projects. The method, known as asset recycling, was used in Australia as a way to finance new construction without incurring new debt.”

International Business Times reports that President Trump’s infrastructure revitalization plan “may be unprecedented in its size and ambition, but it promotes a controversial model championed by Vice President Mike Pence in his home state of Indiana,” and adds, “Pence has been a public face of the White House initiative, and executives from financial firms that helped privatize Indiana’s roads are now the Trump administration officials sculpting the details of the national plan.”

NCDOT Steps Up I-77 Express Work Zone Safety Measures

WSOC interviews a woman seriously injured when a construction worker’s vehicle collided with her SUV in the I-77 Express work zone and reports that “North Carolina Department of Transportation officials . . . said they have added flaggers in construction zones to cut down on all the work vehicles entering the travel lanes. NCDOT officials said their changes also include the extension of construction entrances and new, flashing signs that alert drivers about merging construction trucks.”
