NTTA BOARD APPROVES DIRECT CARRIER BILLING FOR TOLL PAYMENT

NTTA Will be First in North America to Offer Toll Payment Through Cell Phone Bill

PLANO, Texas – Oct. 10, 2016The North Texas Tollway Authority (NTTA) will be the first toll agency in North America to let customers pay their ZipCash (pay-by-mail) invoices using their mobile phone accounts through “direct-carrier billing.” The program is expected to come online in 2017.

Direct-carrier billing allows users to make payments via their smartphone without entering credit card data. Studies show nearly 20 percent of North Texas residents do not have regular access to mainstream financial services and are unable to participate in traditional payment methods, but do have a wireless phone account.

Through direct-carrier billing, ZipCash (pay-by-mail) customers will no longer have to rely on the mail to receive invoices and keep their NTTA accounts up to date; they can simply pay through their cell phone account.

Direct-carrier billing will offer:

  • Simple enrollment by ZipCash invoice or license plate number via text message or smartphone app
  • No prepayment requirement
  • No credit card or bank account requirement
  • Charges sent to cellphone within 5-7 business days of using the toll road

 About the NTTA

The North Texas Tollway Authority, a political subdivision of the state of Texas, is authorized to acquire, construct, maintain, repair and operate turnpike projects across the north Texas region. The nine-member board is comprised of Chairman Kenneth Barr; Vice Chairman Bill Moore; and Directors William D. Elliott, Matrice Ellis-Kirk, Mojy Haddad, John Mahalik, Michael Nowels, George “Tex” Quesada and Jane Willard.

NTTA serves Collin, Dallas, Denton and Tarrant counties and owns and operates the Dallas North Tollway, President George Bush Turnpike, Sam Rayburn Tollway, Addison Airport Toll Tunnel, Lewisville Lake Toll Bridge, Mountain Creek Lake Bridge and Chisholm Trail Parkway. Tolls are collected to repay debt and to operate and maintain the roadways.
