Broadband Breakfast reports, the Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority (LA Metro) recently notified the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) of its opposition to a requested reduction of the lower 900 megahertz band currently allocated for toll operators to use for transponder communications. NextNav, a geolocation services provider, petitioned FCC to reallocate the bandwidth for terrestrial positioning, navigation and timing services, and mobile broadband use. LA Metro express lanes executive Mark Linsenmayer stated the agency’s opposition is based, among other things, on demonstrable concerns that resulting interference from new license holders would “contribute to missed transponder reads, degraded customer experiences, and lost toll revenues.” LA Metro joins amateur radio operators in opposing the spectrum change.
