RiverLink Board Will Invest In Staffing Improvements To Manage Customer Service Calls Surge

WLKY reports, RiverLink, the Louisville-Southern Indiana Ohio River Bridges toll collection system, will invest $3.3 million to shore up customer service operations. Telephone call volume has surged since Electronic Transaction Consultants (ETC) completed implementation of new back-office functionality and resumed invoicing postponed during the transition from a previous system. The Kentucky-Indiana Joint Board overseeing RiverLink agreed to make the staffing investments yesterday. The money will go toward both raises and new hires, including bringing on temporary customer service representatives. “We know this will not be an immediate fix, but it’s a big step in the right direction,” Amanda Spencer, assistant state highway engineer with the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet, said in a news release. Training and quality assurance will be provided by an on-site business systems analyst, a position to be staffed by ETC.

WHAS coverage of this development includes additional detail about the hourly rate increases.

FHWA Awards $150 Million In Grants For EV Charger Repair Or Replacement

The Biden-Harris administration has awarded 24 grants totaling nearly $150 million for repairing or replacing almost 4,500 electric vehicle (EV) charging ports in 20 states, FHWA announced yesterday. The first-round funding is a new program of the $5 billion National Electric Vehicle Infrastructure (NEVI) Formula Program, part of the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (Bipartisan Infrastructure Law). “Program rules stipulate a 10% set-aside for States or localities that require additional assistance to strategically deploy EV charging infrastructure.” The Notice of Funding Opportunity was published last September, and FHWA has published the full list of recipients. The press release notes, “Under President Biden’s leadership, EV sales have more than quadrupled, and the number of publicly available ports has grown by over 70% since he took office.” The administration’s $7.5 billion investment in the nation’s EV charging infrastructure also is credited with helping to spur over $130 billion in EV-related manufacturing. Several milestones toward the White House’s goal of seeing 500,000 chargers installed by 2030 also are outlined.
