Kapsch Establishes Academic Research Partnership With Spanish University
Kapsch TrafficCom announced it has partnered with Comillas Pontifical University (Universidad Pontificia Comillas), a Spanish research university with an engineering school, to fund the establishment of a new faculty position, the “Chair for Smart and Sustainable Mobility.” According to Kapsch’s news release, “The primary objective of this collaboration is to delve deep into the facets of urban mobility. The Chair will be instrumental in examining, analyzing, and proposing cutting-edge policy designs. By fostering a close-knit academic-industrial partnership, both entities seek to facilitate the development and implementation of holistic solutions that are geared towards a smarter and more eco-friendly transportation paradigm.” Kapsch CTO Alfredo Escribá commented, “By partnering with [the university], we aim to pave the way for methodical research and actionable insights into sustainable mobility. Together, we will redefine what it means to travel smartly and sustainably in our cities.” The company said the collaboration underscores its commitment “to push the boundaries of innovation while prioritizing environmental stewardship.”

NBC News reports, Mitch Landrieu, the senior advisor to President Biden tasked with overseeing implementation of the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA) and presidential infrastructure renewal initiatives since 2021, “is expected to leave his role by the end of the year, according to three people familiar with the decision, who cautioned that the exact timing had not been finalized yet.” NBC adds, “It’s not clear whether Landrieu has his next position lined up or whether he might join Biden’s 2024 campaign, though he is likely to have some role in the broader re-election effort, two sources familiar with the discussions said. It’s also unclear whether he will be replaced.” Landrieu and his staff of 15 people reportedly have been involved in “thousands of new bridge, rail and road projects” and are responsible for “coordinating with multiple federal agencies and working closely with state and local governments to execute a variety of projects.”
