Cashless Conversion Of Oklahoma's Bailey Turnpike Advances
KFOR reports, the Oklahoma Turnpike Authority (OTA) has completed another phase of its AET conversion of the H.E. Bailey Turnpike. OTA announced that cash collection ended on the entire segment between Lawton and Oklahoma City, all ramps included, on Thursday, July 14. The authority expects the Walters toll plaza and its ramps at SH-5 between Lawton and the Texas state line to become cashless later this month.

WVXU and WLWT report, Kentucky and Ohio have substantially modified their 2012 plan for the Brent Spence Briadge Corridor project. They now propose to route all through traffic over a new double-deck span with a reduced footprint, reserving the existing span for local traffic. The alteration means the new bridge will have five lanes in each direction and two reduced-width shoulders on each level. Kentucky transportation secretary Jim Gray said local officials have “have voiced their support” for the new configuration, which will occupy 14 acres, instead of the 25 originally envisioned. Officials did not say whether the new design will change the project’s estimated $2.8 billion budget.

Sun Gazette reports, the theme of a recent Northern Virginia Transportation Alliance (NVTA) event was that the region “has been transformed for the last decade by Express Lanes projects and regional leaders say more of the same is needed — including over the Potomac River and into Maryland — if the metropolitan area is to continue thriving.” Panelists discussed Maryland DOT’s push to add tolled express lanes to I-495 and I-270, as well as Virginia DOT’s desire to make some of the reversible 95 Express lanes bi-directional. (NVTA is an organization of business leaders committed to improvement of greater Washington’s transportation infrastructure and systems.)
