According to Border Report, plans to expand the Anzalduas International Bridge and create a second Rio Grande border crossing for fully loaded commercial trucks took a leap forward yesterday with the signing of an agreement between local and US officials. “Under the agreement, [Texas] municipalities have committed to giving the federal government a portion of the bridge, including buildings for cargo inspection and land that U.S. Customs and Border Protection officials will need to properly funnel incoming commercial trucks from Mexico. In return, the municipalities will be allowed to keep the increased revenue once fully-loaded cargo trucks start crossing.” State and local officials must still complete funding of the expansion project. They expect the bridge improvement to increase the volume and value of trade between the US and Mexico.
