NCDOT Invites Input on Improving Transport in a Corridor Surrounding I-77

The Charlotte Observer reports, “Commuters of clogged Interstate 77, north and south of Charlotte, have a chance to weigh in on transportation improvements in the six- to 10-mile-wide corridor around the highway. An online survey launched [today], called Beyond 77, will be the first step in a two-year study of the corridor, a 68-mile segment from Statesville [North Carolina] to Rock Hill, S.C. ” The Observer notes, “The study won’t focus on changes to the interstate itself or plans that are underway, such as [additional] toll lanes coming to I-77 south from Charlotte to the South Carolina state line. Because of funding delays, the N.C. transportation department says construction of the 11-mile, $1 billion project won’t start until 2029.”

India Makes Another Concession to Motorists Who Haven't Obtained a FASTag

Livemint reports, at the request of the National Highways Authority of India, the government yesterday agreed to “relax” its new all-electronic tolling mandate at 65 toll plazas with high levels of cash transactions. Operators of those plazas are allowed to accept cash at as many as 25 percent of FASTag lanes for the next 30 days “so that the citizens are not put to any inconvenience.” The article notes that the government has made several temporary accommodations since initiating cashless tolling on national highways on December 15.
